Riviera Maya Mexico – All About Riviera Maya
The Riviera Maya is a stretch of tourist destination towns and villages along the coastal Highway 307 located on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
Traditionally, the Riviera Maya has been recognized as spanning from Playa Del Carmen south to Tulum and 40 km inland.
In order to reach the Riviera Maya, you must fly to the Cancun International Airport, roughly 50 km north of Playa Del Carmen, then drive south down Highway 307 till you reach your preferred destination.
The Riviera Maya is a tourist’s paradise and has the accommodations to meet the annual influx of visitors. The region has grand all-inclusive resorts, boutique hotels, fine dining, and beautiful beaches.The Riviera Maya also has plenty to see and do. Off of the coast is the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the second longest reef in the world. Additionally, there are plenty of Mayan ruins and lush jungles to explore and enjoy!
The region has plenty of activities for tourists including guided jungle tours, zip-lining, visiting the eco-theme parks of Xcaret and Xel-Ha, horseback riding, or water based activities such as snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, windsurfing, jet skiing, and scuba diving.
There are also several golf courses in the region designed by Jack Nicklaus. All of these courses are beautiful and offer a varying degree of difficultly, but should be enjoyable for any golfer who finds themselves in the Riviera Maya area. The Riviera Maya also features many wonderful shopping locations. The shopping varies from larger name brand items, to small homemade crafts attainable in many of the markets and or villages.
The capital of the Riviera Maya is Playa Del Carmen, which is a sprawling beach Mecca of Mexico. Each of the towns in the Riviera Maya has its own unique attributes. There is really something for everyone in the Riviera Maya, whether you’re on a budget or money isn’t an issue, you will have a wonderful vacation in this region of Mexico!
